Adley is 11 months old. VH go to Disney.

Maya is looking very pretty and she is a good.sister.

Molly loves to climb at the Carnegie Science Center. She reached the top, 24 feet but could not reach the bell. I think her arms were not long enough. See her fancy red wizard of Oz shoes. That girl loved shoes beginning with the first pair she had.

The VH are in Disney world. Sadie is a princess at all times. She took her dresses and is a different princess every day.
Here is Rapunzel.

Now there are two Rapunzels

Two sunglasses

Two cute girls

The life guards are gone from the beach for the winter. There were no children on the beach today. Just gray heads or us people.
We are catching two to three crabs a day. Last nights dinner was crabs from the tidal creek.

I took a day tour to Daufuskie Island. Jack and I had been there 35 years ago. It that time there were 50 Gullahs, or Afro Americans that lived a very poor life. There was a one room school where Pat Conroy taught for one year. Now there are about 400 residents living in wealth and about 15 Gullahs. A new school for k- 5th grade. There are two communities. You take a ferry to the island. We drove around in golf carts, the only transportation on the island. Fun day.
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church #2
It used to be all blacks praying here. Now a minister comes from the mainland and the service is all white with just a few blacks. Church was rebuild by the new residents of the island. The blacks were very angry and worries at first. They thought the church would be taken away from them.

Praise house where the blacks prayed. This was also rebuild.

Light house on island.

Adley is 11 months old

Adley is getting herself to a stand and moving around the room from chair to chair. Friday, the dog, is her playmate. They share the toys and the food. Whenever Adley is, Friday is right next to her.
Adley with her pumpkin.

Look how pretty Maya is. And a good big sister.

Mollie climbed to the top of the climbing wall at the Science Center in Pittsburgh. She could not reach to ring the bell. The yard stick says 24 feet. This is the little girl that had a broken arm a few weeks ago. Notice she is wearing shiny red wizard of Oz shoes. From her first pair of shoes, she loved shoes.

The VH are in Disney World for a few days.
Sadie takes all her princess dresses and is a new princess every day.

Emma is eating pizza and it looks like a lot of it is on her face.

I went to Daufuskie island for a day tour with the Sea Pines Woman's club. Jack and I toured it maybe 35 years ago. That is before any building was done. When we visited the island there were maybe 50 Afro Americans , gullah people, living on the island in poverty. Now there are golf courses and expensive homes. You need to take a ferry to the island. There are about 400 residents. There was a one room schoolhouse years ago. That is where Pat Conroy taught and wrote the book , The Water Is Wide, about his experiences. Now there is an elementary school. After fifth grade the kids are ferried to HHI for the upper grades. A historical group are trying to save the old buildings and tell the story of the island. There are many tabby ruins to see. A very interesting day.
Church on the island

Praise house-- this is where the blacks were allowed to pray.

Lighthouse on the island.

The life guards are off the beach for the winter. Today the beach was filled with gray heads.
We are busy eating out and tonight is company at our house. Bike rides and beautiful days on the beach. Yesterday was the Bluffton Seafood festival. Jack ate oysters. It think that is why he was in the bathroom ALL morning. I bet they were spoiled. Can not figure out what else caused his problem.

Kaplan family in Hilton Head Island

We had a wonderful vacation with the kaplan family. There is great interest in fishing with Abe and Nathan. We had success this visit.
On the beach -- they made a hot tub with pillow and foot tabs for the three kids.

Nathan with a little fish.

Nathan with his catch.

Abe with his fish.

Crabbing on the dock. This is very serious work as you can see. You hold a string with a piece of chicken on it in the water. Then you pull it up very slowly and put the net under the crab and then off to the stove to cook it. We had many meals of crabs. One day Abe, Jack and I ate nine crabs in the screened in porch for lunch. It was a feast.

Here is the king of all fishes caught in the lagoon by Abe. It is a sheep head fish. This is the first of two very large fish caught.

Mollie biking. She rides circles around the driveway for long periods of time.
We take walks and she leads on her bike.

Jack, Abe and Nathan went on a rental fishing boat for a day of fishing. They loved it and caught a number of fish. We ate two of them for dinner.

Bernie and Kathie Pennock came over for dinner. Bernie had a science experiment for Nathan. He showed how to make electricity. And then to use a switch to turn it on and off. The second picture shows the light bulb turned on.

Here is Nathan playing with it the next day. He was one happy boy.

Jack and Abe caught this fish in the lagoon. This was a good year for fishing. It is a black drum.

Every visit requires a trip to Hilton Head Ice cream. Abe is eating super man and it is blue. Mollie had birthday cake and did not like it. I always get mint chocolate chip.

6:30 AM The car is packed and they are ready for the long drive north. They will return in April for another HHI vacation.

Gotcha Day + 3 months

It is three months since Adley arrived into the family. She is sending kisses now. She also pulls herself up to a standing position. Loves her family. Only wants to be held and cared for by her daddy when he is around.

Yom Kippur

Sadie and Emma went to a pumpkin patch this weekend.

Mollie had her cast taken off on Monday. She has a brace to wear out of the house. She is fearful to take it off and I can understand her feelings. Here she is at the doctors's office as they cut the cast off.

Shanksville, PA. - Flight 93

I have a bucket list, day trips and things I just should do. Jack, Nancy and Joel Weinstein went to see the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, PA. It has been open since Sept. 11and we thought only a few people would be there. We were very surprised by the crowds. The parking lot was filled. On weekends they bus the people from a different lot. There were bus groups and a lot of gray heads ( senior citizens). It is now a national park. A very large area that was mined. The drive to the spot was long. Very quiet and beautiful scenery. It is such a blessing the plane crashed in an empty field. There is a long walk of marbles slabs with the name of each victim. Three hemlock tree to signify the other three areas of crashes. The Twin Towers and the Pentagon. In a distance, is the spot of the crash. The fire and crash put a 40 foot hole into the ground. You can see a large bolder in the distance and that is the crash sight.
The sight is not complete in any way. There will be a field of 40 trees, an area of 40 wind chimes, a flight path walkway and a visitors center. Presently there are port a johns.

Boulder is the crash sight. You could see flags there. Family members have a private entrance to the spot.

Wall of marble with names of victims. Names of Todd Beamer and mark Bingham. One of the men talked to a 911 person and found out what was happening. He told her to phone his wife and tell her he loved her. The 33 people took a vote to attack and then he said, " let's roll". They took over the plane and it crashed before heading to Wash. DC and probably the White House.

Afterward we need a snack. There was a diner with beautiful pies and next to it was a DairyQueen. So we had blizzards!

Here is an old
Picture from Mollie's 4th birthday party.
