Pittsburgh for three weeks

We are in Pittsburgh for three weeks this is the first cold day where I was chilled. I was able to do yard work. Xmas dinner was to be with Joel and Nancy and family. Abe had been ill a few days earlier. I got sick and missed my Chinese dinner. By the end of the day Nathan and mollie were also sick. But by xmas day everyone was fine. We went to Joyce's apartment for a dinner. We used the party room and it was a fine evening. I had two overnight with the K kids. We were driving to the house and Abe says the car smells. Five minutes later the car stinks. I say, the car smell like sh- t. Everyone check their shoes. Well, Mollie has a big dog turd hanging from her shoe. At a red light, I opened the door and scraped the shoe. Could not get it all off. But the car still smelled. There was a pile of it on the floor. What a mess and not fun. Xmas at the VH house. I have pictures of Sadie in the same dress as Emma is wearing. And Mollie also has it.

Here is Sadie. Same dress. Many washings.

The G went to NYC for Xmas day. Perfect weather and day. Adley went to central park.

Holiday card from the K kids.

I visited Bob M at his assisted living home.

Back to Pittsburgh

The Barnett girls. Mother referred to me as the BABY. Even as an adult.

Last Sunday we went to Charlotte, NC to visit Mike and Sara. Then on Monday we arrived back in the burg. Visited and brought dinner to sister Joyce on Tuesday. She is doing well. She is in some pain but all is healing well.

I went to the Chanukah play and lunch at Mollie's school. She sang all the songs and was a poor Jewish women in a play.

Mollie was picked to be Katrina kitty kat in a new program that Mister Rodgers neighborhood production company is filming for next year. She went to the filming. KKK wears green and we were concerned that she would agree to wear that color as she is a pink princess. They put her in front of a white screen and she danced, laughed frown, and was very happy. When she was done, there was a let down. They were on to the next child and she was nothing. I was very proud of her and hope we can recognize her in the show next year. The name of the show is Daniel Tigers Friends.

Abe was showing me videos on U tube. We had a filet steak dinner at the K house.

Adley has her own cabinet in the kitchen. It is empty and she likes to sit in it. We had some report cards this week. All the grandkids are doing well in school.

Thanksgiving #2

We felt the need to cook our own turkey ( actually a Perdue roaster), stuffing and cranberries. Thea and Richard helped us eat it. the house smelled good and the Steelers won a football game. We have been enjoying our time in HHI the past two weeks. I have been having Fridays with Shirley. We go someplace every week. Two weeks ago was Beaufort. Yesterday was Palmetto Bluff. We drove around and looked for the new buildings. The development has a LONG way to go. We ate lunch at Buffalos. the restaurant was empty. There are three stores and I can't see how they can stay in business. First we went to the Farmers market at Honey Horn Park. I bought pecans. They are harvested every two years. There are fresh. Remind me to not buy them next year. They will be stale then. Here is Shirley and the other Ruth, as Shirley calls her.

These cabbage and broccoli are so large I could not buy them. How were they fertilized?

Here are the 5 feathers friends. They are vacationing together and are all wearing feathers in their ears.

A picture of my wonderful hair dresser. I love her personality and she give Jack and I wonderful hair cuts. This picture was the first taken with my new camera. Quality looks good.

Emma loves her new boots and wears the Halloween costume all the time.

Here is a picture of Adley on the baby naming day. What a happy girl with a happier daughter.

Say a prayer for my sister Joyce. She had surgery for ovarian cancer this week. She will need chemo and I am sure will be fine in time.
We are going to Charlotte tomorrow to visit with Sara and Mike. Then on to Pittsburgh to see if I can be of some help to my sister. And kiss the grandkids.

Visit the VH for the weekend.

We went to Ellen 's house after the baby naming. Two nights there, and crab cakes and Chinese food. Poor Emma was still sick but it was a fun time.
On Monday morning we got on route 95 and drove to HHI.
Jim and Sadie made a ginger bread house.

Adley= Adelson. Simcha == Happy

We had a Jewish baby naming for Adley. She now has the Hebrew name Simcha.
In NJ , at the YMCA, the rabbi did a lovely service. About 150 people attended. Fruit and desserts were served. Eve explained how she decided on the Hebrew name Simcha. She never expected a baby that had lived in an orphanage for seven months to be so joyful and HAPPY. Marilyn gave a speech. I gave one also. I should have written more detailed notes. I flubbed it up and did not say everything I wanted. So here is a sample of it.
3 assumptions in my life.
I would marry. I would have children, as most people do.
Therefore, I would probably have grandchildren.
7 pregnancies were normal. With uneventful deliveries.
Then we have number eight. Five years of pregnancy. Then the Braxton hicks began. Getting close to referral. Phone call it is a 5 1/2 girl. Hours later the pictures on the computer. I take my iPad to the Chinese neighbor to translate the documents. He declares her healthy and everything is correct. A few weeks later updated pictures arrive. Adley is smiling and looks perfect. We leave five weeks after the referral for China. Three days later Adley is placed in Eve's arms and we are in love and I am bonded with this little human being. Two weeks in China to get the Chinese passport and the US Visa and then back over the north pole to her forever family.
I explained why we had to wait five years for Adley. And why China? It is because that where she my eighth grandchild was.
Adley is her Chinese dress and pink sparkly shoes.

Talit Is two sewed together. One owed by Herman Barnett and the other Bernard Adelson. Both grandfathers of Eve.

Thanksgiving at the G house.

We were in NJ for eight days. Jack and I stay in the basement and we love our bed, bathroom and TV. So we decided to stay on NYC for a night. We started out first at the MONA and it is closed on Tuesday. We then walked the streets and went into many stores. Unfortunately it rained heavy both days. We helped a 21 year old buy $500 heels as a college graduation gift. I suggested she use it as a coffee table item. We saw two plays - Memphis and Billy Elliot. Both wonderful from the first song and dance. We too the train in and back. Coming home was very crowded with everyone leaving the city for the holiday.

All three families were together for the first time in many years for thanksgiving. It was very special to see the grandkids play together. Our dinner was wonderful. Marilyn made a brisket, pumpkin pie and cheese mashed potato. Eve made the turkey , fennel salad, sweet potato.
Emma was ill the entire time. She ended up with an ear and sinuous infection. Therefore we never got a photo of all the kids together.

It takes a group to change Adley's diaper.

Time for some iPad and iPhone gaming

Photo of the eight grandkids. Not so good!!

Sick Emma

On Friday we went to a park, the movie The Muppets, ice cream and to a diner for dinner. Abe loved the hot chicken wings.
14 Adelsons at the movies.

Just a little ice cream!
