Adley is one year old.

November 18, 2011

One year ago a mother gave birth to my granddaughter on a town in south- east China. The next morning she was found abandoned on the steps of the government building that is where she would be processed. I wonder how cold it was that night. She was wrapped in a nice new blanket. She had a round face and pink coloring, so the finding ad in the newspaper reported. Adley is a joy and we are blessed to be given this beautiful child. She is an easy baby, so far. She will be raised with love. Educated to the best of our ability. Fed and clothed. I would like to thank the nanny We never got her name and she was an old woman. She gave Adley love and fed her well. She sang songs to her and cared for her in very poor conditions. Also thanks to the staff at the orphanage. They were kind people. Smiling and seemed to know the girls. Adley and the director definitely had a love for each other. He carried her to Eve arms. When we visited the orphanage, he carried and played with her a lot. He and the nanny seem to look like Adley. I find that strange. Three families received three girls from this orphanage. They were all healthy, well fed and happy babies. That was not the case with many other children. Our girls came from a GOOD place. The director gave the families a gift for the girls. He allowed us to visit the orphanage. Not everyone gets to do that. He allowed the mothers to read, in Chinese, and photograph all the records of the girls. He made a CD of each girl to give to the parents. It shows their life in China. He also gave each parent the newspaper with the finding ad of their daughter in it. I had already paid $75 for a man to mail it to me. That is not the case with other families with other orphanages. Finally, thanks to the mother that placed Adley in a safe location. Where she would be found quickly. I can not understand how parents can give a beautiful healthy baby away because the sex was a girl. But my family will think of this woman with thanks. We will kiss, hug and LOVE every piece of Adley. We will try to give her the Chinese heritage by many experiences. Needless to say, we will eat many Chinese dinners. But she will also be an American girl with ugg boots, football and soccer games, ballet and summer camp. I will teach her to make chocolate chip cookies and grandma Evelyn's banana cake. I promise to teach her everything I love about CHOCOLATE. We will eat Dairy Queen ice cream blizzards. Root beer floats. Every candy bar. Baby Ruths. Milky Ways from the outside first. Butter Fingers. And how grandma eats the candy bar. With a chocolate covered marshmallow you eat the into first. You take a knife to get the marshmallow out and then eat the outside. You take small bites to make the candy last longer. And you never let a day go by without a piece of chocolate. I will teach her to blow bubbles from gum. We will bike together, swim together, go to the zoo. What I am saying -- is I am thrilled to have this little girl in my life. I hope I live to see her be a success in her life and find a person to love like my wonderful husband. To my other seven grandchildren.-- I feel the same way about all of you. How lucky I am to have five girls and three boys to watch grow up. To be part of their lives. My life is VERY good. Posted by Ruth

The G visit Pitt.

Mollie on the climbing wall. She gets to the top but has trouble ringing the bell.

Mollie in ballet outfit.

Mollie with her ballet class. The girl with the dark hair next to her is the daughter of one of Laura's oldest friends, Sadie P.

Playing at CDS school

This is the slide that Mollie fell off and broke her arm.

At grandma's house

Playing on the IPad.

Adley played on the computer and she messed it up. Jack let her press all the keys. Now I have a project fixing what she changed.

Mollie all dressed up in PINK, her favorite color.

Adley walking around furniture.

Day trip to Savannah with friends. We are in front of our favorite fountain.

Location:Pittsburgh

Adley 4 months since gotcha day

Adley and family came for a visit to Pittsburgh. We went to the Carnegie Science Center and Sports Works. Mollie goes there maybe once a week. She climbed to the top of the climbing wall. Maya could not get to,the top and Ho did not have any interest in trying. There were other things to try. Mollie must be a monkey as she does all the things. The CSC was very crowed and we were forced to leave. We then went to play at the boys school. The playground is quite nice and the weather was great. Then Maya got sick and spent the rest of the visit laying around the house. We had an open house on Friday night for all the relatives and friends to meet Adley. About 50 people attended. Thanks to Nancy W. and Barbara B for helping with desserts. We had Ethan F Bar mitzvah on Saturday morning. Then Jack and I rushed to Cleveland, OH for Andrew and Erin Spera's wedding. It was a wonderful weekend. The K came for dinner Sunday night. We served a large dish of lamb chops as Abe loves to eat MEAT. Adley is walking around furniture. She can crawl. It is a three limb funny crawl. But she can get places walking from one thing to someone's hand. She has bright shiny sparkle shoes and I love watching her. She is very friendly with people. Loves her grandpa Jack. She does not go to me and I think the white hair is the problem. She is a good eater and what she does not eat, Friday the dog, is waiting to eat at the bottom of the high chair. Playing ping pong was the big activity with the grandkids last week. Holden played for hours. Jack was worn out playing with him.

Halloween

In the last two weeks, we have eaten out many, many dinners.  Seen many friends and gone to Savannah.  I went to every store in HHI and Bluffton.  The weather is good and we head home to Pittsburgh tomorrow.
The APP for the blog on IPad does not work since the last update.  So I have some work to do before I can upload pictures to this blog.  What a pain and it was a good thing it did not happen in China.
Adley learned to walk around furniture and pull herself to a stand. She also started to crawl which is pretty exciting. Maya is on the YMCA swim team and she is doing great. The boys are busy with soccer games but they end this weekend. Last weekend was a game in snow, rain and cold. Then the basketball season begins for Abe.
