House of the Pope The popes moved from Italy to France from 1309-1377 and built and lived here.
The church and house of the popes were built in 18 years.  Each pope would put an addition or changes things.  Only fully walled city.  Miles of wall.

 Popes office.  When the last pope left, he took all the furniture with him back to Italy.

 Jewish synagoue, has services today.  There was a getto area.  All the Jewish people were murdered during WW2.  I felt I smelled corn beef as we were walking here.

Here are the cobble stone streets we walked.  Next time I visit an area like this, I will wear my hiking boots.

 How they hide sewage and underground things in a medieval city.

 

 

The H twins and husbands visited us in HHI

We had a Steeler party. Went to the Jazz center for a wonderful concert. They joined us for the a bike club lunch. They enjoyed our world in HHI.

Every day there would be towels folded,in fun ways.

There was a synagogue. All the Jewish people were killed during WW2. I felt like I could smell corn beef as we were walking around. This was a Jewish ghetto at one time.

Pont du Gard. Nov. 3 Sat.

30 mile long Roman Aqueduct. Went down about 13 inches per mile. From mountains to city of Nimes. Operated until 9th century. Had a roof over the aqueduct to keep the water clean and places to strain and clean the water. When it was no longer used, stones were taken to build other things. The lower part, was a road that was built later. Not used now. This is a park now. Very busy with visitors.






A house that was on the grounds. Was a hotel but now closed.


When a mason finished his job, he would sign the stone.


I think the dots are the number of areas this mason worked on.

Vincent Van Gogh mental hospital. Medieval town Nov.1 Friday

Took a drive into,the country to see the mental hospital where Van Gogh went. A waste of time. Replica of the room where he lived.



Ice baths were used for shock therapy.









The one white tulip symbolizes that he felt alone.
He was allowed to leave the hospital and go outside a paint. Thought to be the beginning of art therapy.











Then we went to a medieval city in the mountains.
There was display of Princess Grace of Monaco pictures. They family had stayed and prayed in the area / church. They donated money for the new windows in the church.












This is where women did their laundry and gossiped.

Linen store. Provence is known for linens. Very beautiful but I do not use tablecloths.



Can you see the window in the rock. People are living in the medieval town. They put tons of money into the small, cold, old homes.
