Afterthoughts 3

Parents now wait five years for a Chinese child. People adopting a special needs child have a shorter wait. There is the cost of these adoptions. I am amazed how people can have the strength to wait for these children. I know some people give up because of the long wait and addition costs. These were remarkable people that I met in China. Parents will adopt a child with special needs but not know the extent of the medical care that will be required. They will go back to their homes and begin the rounds of doctors visits. They will solve the health issue and LOVE their child.
Also it is such a sight to see families made in minutes. They were handed a child / baby. The person from the orphanage gives them a little information, and I wonder how true it is, and then they leave. The new parents know so little about the history, likes and health background of the child. They just figure it put. The babies start out shy, crying and afraid. In just a short time, they emerge as happy babies with the love of their new parents.

Change in Adley --- in the one month with her family. She is a happy baby that smiles and laughs. She loves her siblings and they love her. She cries when they get out of the car and she is left alone. She likes all foods. She is stronger. Turning over more. Holding herself up on her stomach. Learning to use her hands. We do not think she ever fed herself any food. She did not have toys to reach for or use for finger control.

I think about the enormous changes in her life in one month. Three airplane rides. Drives in a car with a car seat. Ice cream and strolls around the neighborhood. A soft mattress to sleep on. Air conditioning in summer and it will be warm in the winter. And a family to love, kiss and DRIVE her crazy with attention.

I just want to tell everyone -- I loved when I got my Droid cell phone. I thought it was something to have internet in the car. BUT I love the Apple IPAD. It is so easy to use and fun. That is the commercial for the day. Jack wonders if he could be replaced by the iPad?
