The Kosher turkey story.

This is copied from a posting on FaceBook. Very cute.

Jesus and the Ancestors Send Us a Kosher Turkey
Eight years later and I still love this story.

One last time for Virginia, for old time’s sake.

_______________________________________________________________

So on Wednesday, my mother-in-law showed up at our house with a large frozen turkey. This was especially strange because we had all decided to go out for sushi (even though I offered to cook a traditional dinner…anything to avoid having to cook Chinese style food for MIL).

After a cup or two of sake, MIL told us that she believed that the turkey she gave us was a miracle.

Of course, we had to ask how a turkey could be a miracle and this is what she told us:

At the grocery store, they give you a free turkey for being a good customer. Everyday for four days, I went to the grocery store to get my free turkey. The first three days, the turkeys were no good. Too big, too small, just not right. But yesterday, when I went to the grocery store, my luck changed. When I got to the big turkey freezer, there was a woman putting a big turkey in her cart. She was telling her husband how lucky they were to get this turkey. Then, the butcher clerk saw what she had and also said she was very lucky. I looked in her cart to see what kind of special turkey she had, so I could get this same kind of special turkey.

When I looked in the turkey freezer, I saw that there was just one turkey like that one left and I grabbed it. I looked at the turkey to see why it is so good and I see that it is a very expensive turkey. This turkey should cost THIRTY-EIGHT DOLLARS. Can you believe it? A turkey that cost $38 and I was getting it for FREE because of my grocery card. Very lucky.

Then I looked closer at the turkey. I see it is a KOSHER turkey. I went every day for three days and there were no Kosher turkeys before. I knew then that it was a miracle, just for me. I know that Jesus sent me this turkey and it is not just luck.

At this point, she seemed to think that was the end of the story. The rest of us did not. A incredulously asked her why Jesus would possibly send her a Kosher turkey.

Oh, it is because of Amah—that’s my mother. she said.

When I was a little girl, Amah killed many geese for us to eat. When Amah was going to kill a goose, first she hit it on the top of the head like this. She demonstrated by knocking her fist on her head. She hit it with the handle of the knife, right on its head. Then she mumbled some words. Then she slit its throat. Amah, I asked her, why do you say those words? Because she was a Buddhist, Amah said that she was saying a prayer for the goose when she had to kill it. She asked a blessing for her family.

When I saw that the turkey was Kosher, I know when it is killed, the Rabbi says a prayer. Just like when Amah killed a goose!

So then I know that Amah is in heaven and she told Jesus to send me the Kosher turkey so I will know it is from Amah and she is watching us. It is a miracle that I got this Kosher turkey.

Besides, it is worth THIRTY-EIGHT DOLLARS and I got it for FREE! That is a miracle too!

Happy Thanksgiving EVERYONE!

Adley is three years old.

We now have HHI grandchildren . Our cleaning lady, Ganka, has three children. She is from Bulgaria and the husband is from Mexico. There is one aunt in Florida. They never see any other relatives. The five year , Gabby and the eight year, Danny, are home schooled. The oldest daughter, Vicky, was homed schooled until this year. Twelve years and seventh grade. So Jack and I have had fun playing with the two younger kids. Gabby smiles all the time and you can melt looking at her face. Danny is sweet, loves Legos and never stops moving. Jack spent an afternoon fishing with Danny. They had success and Danny took home one of the four fish that they caught.

Eating chocolate pudding with Jack. We also had a discussion on how to eat Oreos.

Visit to the horse stable.

Fridays with Shirley and The Other Ruth. We went to the tanger outlets as a Kate Spade store opened. Shirley bought a black bracelet and picked out a purse that I emailed to her husband. She wants it for Xmas. We went to some art galleries, the library and lunch at Panera's. I had the squash soup. Very good and no longer available in the Pgh area stores. This past week we went to the Xmas gift sale at the Sea Pines CC. A lot of jewelry and chocolate. We ate cookies and coffee for lunch. Sat and talked the afternoon away.

Adley had a birthday. She is three. She had a birthday part at the Y gym. 19 kids and she was a happy girl.

In the last month we have had good times with three couples that come to HHI part time. First joe and Diana Rava. We enjoyed their heated pool. Susan and Michael Wiener from Texas. Fun and good people. They bought a house in Sea Pines and had planned to move here in retirement. But the recession changed their plans. They sold the house. Their sons all live on the west coast. Now they come for visits. Miles Brett and Perla Lipitz are from Altanta. They have a house in Sea PInes and come for weekend visits. Perla's daughter had cancer. She spend nine months in Huston, TX for a bone marrow transplant. They found the donor by doing a drive at the temple as there was no family member that matched. That transplant did not take. So they did one more in Atlanta. One more year. In all I probably did not see Perla for two and a half years. Miles would come to HHI with his kids. But Perla spent all that time taking care of Annie. So we spend quality and quantity time with them this time. We went to Beaufort for a day. The weather was perfect. We brought chairs and sat on the water and watched the sunset.

Perla is not a big cook. We went to their house for brunch. This is a second marriage. Miles was widowed. Perla never thought she would be keeping kosher or live with a dog. Love changes all. They dated for nine years. Perla knew miles wife. They belonged to the synagogue. Now Buddy the dog is on his last days. He really should be put to sleep. But Perla saved his life. The woman that did not want a dog. Years ago our Murray the dog and Buddy were playmates. Murray is dead five years now.

Mollie's teacher sends an email about everything they learned for the week. She also takes a week full of pictures. 200 of more of the class doing everything. I look forward to the Friday email and know what she did that week. I love the pictures. She will take a picture of every child in the class doing the same thing. I also get to see what she is wearing every day.
Some of the outfits are fun. Joyce bought her a necklace at the museum this summer. It is on a leather string. So did not break and she is still wearing it.

The Harbour town basis is being dredged over the next few months. Big boats have not been able to get into it as the water in no longer deep enough. Boats have been moves out and the heavy equipment has arrived.

Elyse A is in love. She is dating Josh W. They live in Cincinnati. He owns a sushi restaurant called Fushion.

Nov 10

The k kids went to their dad's office.

This reminds me of the picture I took years ago.

Laura's stopped by our house and sent us this picture. Snow.

Anna and Paul have come to the USA to live with their father, Tim. They moved to Brazil seven years ago. This picture is with mom Adriana.

Adley will not wear warm clothes as the weather has changed. She only wants to wear the sun dresses. So Eve bribed her. If you put on warm clothes, I will get you something special for breakfast. And here she is eating chocolate covered donuts. She said she was changing to her sun dress as soon as she got home.

We borrowed my cleaning ladies's , Ganka, children for the afternoon. I needed a kid to play with. Gabby is almost 5 and Danny is 8. They are so sweet, good and fun. There is a 12 year old girl. They are home schooled. Except the older girl in seventh grade is now in regular school. And not sure she likes it. She says she has no time to do anything. Ganka is from Bulgaria,
I think that is remarkable to home school when English is not your first
Language.

I went to a Lilith dinner. Sisterhood woman get together for a dinner and discussion. It is about an article from the Lilith magazine. Wh talked about mental illness in children. Example is the Newton, CN. And columbine, CO shootings. I brought salmon topped with panko, walnuts, parm cheese and olive oil. Very tasty.

Early Nov. G family in Florida

The G family went to Florida to visit the other grandparents Marilyn and Carl. They drove partly down to Key West, Marathon . Went swimming with the Dolphins. Holden was not interested in getting in the water with the dolphins.
Maya

Maya, Adley, Holden Adley is loving the pool. She will be a swimmer next year.

Holden, Adley, Eve, Maya

The best picture of Adley ever.

We had a Friday with Shirley and the other Ruth. A visit to an art gallery. And then to shop in Wexford villiage. Branches floral store was having their annual celebration to start Xmas shopping. It was a free lunch of chili and many different sweets for dessert. We ate outside and it was lovely. The store was jumping and the women were buying everything. I looked. It is all red and green and Xmas themed.

Shirley bought an old oil lamp with a decorated top.

We have purchased a flat screen HDTV for the MBR. It is as big as possible and nice.

The beach club in Sea Pines has been torn down they are building a new Big and better building. It was needed. But it will also have less parking in the lot and that is WRONG. It is making the residents angry. But we have no vote on any of this. I wish I had taken a picture of the old building. It is supposed to be completely built for June 1. I hope so. As the renters in our house will not be happy if they can not get to the beach.

Nathan made a picture that looks like stain glass.
There was a swim a thon at the JCC. Nathan swam 74 laps or more that a mile. Mollie swam 20 laps. Nathan would have kept swimming except Laura needed to get home.

Sadie got her report card. All A except in library, media. So Ellen needs to find out what she did wrong in the library!
We went biking with the bike group. The group is called Cycle babblers. And then catered lunch at Shari and Gordan Farbstein's house. Gordan is not well and currently in hospice. We wanted to do something special with him. He was always in the rear on our bike rides. He wore a helmut that looked like an army hat. We took a picture with everyone that could attend wearing our bike helmets.

Shari always uses her art studio of garage for large parties. She is a professional potter. Makes beautiful things. We were 22 people eating fried chicken from Publix. Good eating and greasy too.

Gordan and Jack. Gordan has the bluest of eyes. The sweetest man. Always smiling and interested in your life. He loves jazz and had wanted to be a musician. Mother said no. You need a profession that makes money. So he sold insurance and one of his clients was our Ed Averbach. They lived in PGH before retiring to HHI 20 some years ago. He was one of the people that helped start the Jazz night Club in HHI. He always sits in the front table when he goes. When I went last year, I asked for the Gordan F table and got it.

Shari's art

She also has collections of many things. There is the antique cocktail purses, perfume bottles, old mirrors, pottery musicians. Etc. it is a wonderful artistic house. I am glad I am not the one dusting it.
