Day three,

January 21
I woke up and looked out my window to see the Archidell I. There are six Archidell boats in the fleet. So we are on the same itinerary. Yesterday we saw many small cruise boats. They can not be larger than 18 passenger. Today there are three boats where we are located.
The third boat just after sunrise. This boat is in bad shape.

We had breakfast at 6:30. Today was personal omelets and French toast. Always fresh fruit at the meal. We got on the dinghy at 7:15 to go to a Lava island. You can see mountains with volcanos all around. We had a 2 1/5 very dangerous walk, in my opinion. It is very hot and the ground was wholes, and uneven. Everyone made the walk. We were getting to the end of the walk and I was expecting to see the ocean. Instead we came to a little lake. We had been following white sticks in the ground. No white sticks could be found. The guide had not done this walk for two years. He called the boat and they came with the dinghy. We watched to where it landed and knew where to walk. That required us walking back some to get to the water. This was not a fun walk. And much harder than the walk to the sun gate at Machi Picchu .

Candelabra cactus. Growing through the lava.

Baby cactus. Lava cactus

Volcano in the back. Nothing can grow or live here.

The food is wonderful. In Peru it was all rice and potatoes and beans. The cook on the boat makes good simple food. One dinner was tuna. Yesterday was chicken, lasagna, fried calamari in large pieces. Cream soup with pop corn to put into it. Lunch was a terrific fish soup. Fillet of beef, all kinds of fresh vegetables, plantains. When we get back from a dinghy ride we are given fruit juices, plus dried bananas or fried onions with powdered sugar. After lunch we took a dinghy ride to see more animal life. Very boring and a waste. Got back on the boat and we are cruising to the next place.
Blue footed boobies. - the darker in color the feet the more sexual they are.

Flightless Cormorants- Over centuries the wings got smaller and they are not able to fly.

Dinner was creamed soup with the pop corn, rice, cole slaw, other cold salad, hot vegetables, spinach soufflé , and shrimp. Dessert was a Carmel Flan with a apple cut in the shape of a bird.
I have never seen a night of stars like tonight. It is total darkness. The Archipell I is near us. And I would think not another human is near for miles.
Jack says a night in HHI about 15 years ago was better.
