Yesterday our guide took us to the super market for more formula. It was in the center of town. Starbucks was next door. Two moms got coffee. There was a very large department store on the first floor and above. We went down two floors and there was the food market. So crowded and products we have never seen. I looked around the clothing store. The shoe department could have had 300 different types of shoes. The guide said they are all made in China. With more time, I could have bought shoes. I did not recognize one brand. The makeup area had brands we have in the US.
Today was a trip to a mall, shopping area where the street was only pedestrian traffic. Then were masses of people and indoor malls with six floors all around. We went to a " wholesale" pearl store and into many other stores.
Walked past the area where herbal medicines were sold. I could not recognize much of the products and the guide could not translate the items. There were mushrooms and nuts. Scorpions were sold to cook for some medicine. Then there was the pet area. Puppies, kittens, rabbits, birds mice, fish, and all the products needed for them. I do not think you would have seem this 14 years ago when we visited. The people did not have money to spend on pets.
Then off the lunch to a large restaurant. The food was good and none of it has cost much. The restaurant was state owned. There was a large main floor and four upper floor with private rooms. One Western toilet was on the third floor. The rest were squatters. I am getting very good at these toilets.
This is the first day that I have had trouble with the air. My asthma has kicked in and I feel short of breath. The sky is smoggy of cloudy. We will have another rain storm today. We can hear the thunder now.
