The people were so interesting on the plane. The stewardess wear a red hat with a scarf around the neck. They are all wearing the same red lipstick. And red heels. Since the Emeritus airline will not hire them women, all the women are from other countries. And certainly no Jews or Israelies. The Dubai airport was large and modern. We got on a very large elevator to change floors and a train to go from one gate to the next. Our first Indian meal on the plane was fire! We could not eat the chicken. Too spicy and hot. As was the salad. The dessert was some kind of cottage cheese thing. I also did not eat that. But the bread was good. There was a small piece of chocolate. Also something called a digestive. It was like little nuts and I said we better eat them. Dubai looked from the air like it has many large and tall buildings. We could not see the tallest building. Desert area. I sat next to Sarah Tompson from Boston. She is going to Borneo to do bird watching for 18 days. There will be six people in her group. She will be on our flight home. She wore her white hair in one long braid . Very interesting to talk to for ten hours. We had our room on the top, executive floor. Free cocktails and appetizers from 6-8:30 so that was our dinner. The first morning we began touring after a typical large buffet breakfast.
Namaste from India
Taj Palace
16th century tomb of Humayan. Second Mughal emperor.
Our hotel. Taj Palace. It was five star inside. Wonderful room . The help dressed in gorgeous outfits. Double the help needed. One man to greet us and assist at the elevator. No rain for most of the year. So nothing to wash the dust off the buildings. While the inside was great, the outside of the hotel looked quite dirty and shabby. Picture taken in the fog. To get in the hotel and museum, etc., you need to go through security with a scanner. All properties are gated. This includes the hotels. Large grounds and not possible to just go out for a Jog and shopping was not close.
We are greeted with flowers when we check into hotels.
This was built by Humayan's oldest wife. There about 200 bodies buried here. The gardens around the area are in squares. This architecture was a preview for the Taj Mahel.
There is a smaller dome inside the larger dome.
Qutab Minar. King Qutubuddin Aiback , built in 1199.
Top of a water well.
Side of water well.
This Minar was never finished. It would have been double the height of the first one.
We went and walked around the presidential palace and government buildings.
Very large and beautiful.
Old Delhi. Capital,of Muslim India from 1200-1900 century.
Raj Ghat. Mahatma Gandhi black marble memorial. He was shot, killed 1/10/1948. Father of the nation. Political and spiritual leader of India's independence. This is where he was cremated. He believed in fighting for causes in a non violent manner. Nelson Mandela had the same idea for South Africa.
There are only 3,000,000 visitors to India each year. Mostly from Oct.to May. The summer is just too hot. I find the Indians are taking pictures and starring at us as much as we look at this. I started to pose for their pictures and then take the photo of them. It is fun. Such interesting costumes or dressing. The women in Morocco were not colorful in their dress.
Look closely and his penis is hanging out. I had no idea about that when I took, the picture.
Woman holding a newborn baby. I took the picture so quickly, I missed the baby.
The babies eyes are lined with black makeup.
Woman with head covers. Always.
People sleeping on the street. Homeless everywhere.
Person gathering twigs from tree for fires.
Indian dinner. HOT.
The people throw all their garbage on the street. In the AM sweepers. Clean the streets. Then garbage trucks are supposed to come a remove it. But that person probably set it on fire instead. This is a common practice. You are not allowed to burn the garbage.
Homeless.
